Protesters gather in KC to oppose new Arizona immigration law - Kansas City.com

More than 100 people turned out in Mill Creek Park on Sunday to protest a new law in Arizona to crack down on illegal immigrants.

“No Juan Crow” was among the messages on signs that attracted honks from passing motorists on the Country Club Plaza.

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, a Republican, signed a law Friday that requires police to question people about their immigration status if there is reason to suspect they are illegal immigrants.

Critics say that it will lead to civil rights abuses.

“It’s the beginning of a police state,” said Gil Guerrero, who works for the Guadalupe Centers in Kansas City. “It’s like the South Africa ‘pass laws,’ where you had to have ID at all times. We don’t study history. This is what happened in Nazi Germany with the Jews.”

Supporters of the law say that Arizona, which has an estimated 460,000 illegal immigrants, has waited long enough for the federal government to do something and that critics are overreacting.

Jude Huntz, director of human rights for the Catholic Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph, was among those protesting on the Plaza.

“Our concern is that Missouri is going to wind up the same way because we already have harsh anti-immigration laws here in Missouri with our state legislature,” Huntz said.

That is  right America  this is  what  we need to  do  to oppose this  law. We all need to  stand up together and  show the world we are against this. We need a national protest. We all need to stand together on this. We need to arrange some kind of  major get together just  to be heard.

This Law is  wrong. We need to stand up against the new law America has to unite together and shout at the top of our lungs we must be heard. There has all ready been rioting in Az because of the law. It is setting  white Americans  against non white Americans. It has created a devastating ripple that can only be prevented by opposing this law. Georgia is even thinking about  signing up for the  same law. Do we really want America  to be seen in this light? Soon people there will be some kind of revolution of  some  sort in the united  states.

There is  too much  crap that is happening in the United  States  with the new laws taken place and the government  changing  everything where they  have a hand in it. The United States is not  a safe place anymore. Americans are getting sick of the changes and  the  drastic course our country is  going. People are banning together to fight for our  freedom.  It is time to stand up America  for  what is  right.
