BBC News - Thousands rally in support of Niger coup: "Thousands rally in support of Niger coup
People in the capital seem to be overwhelmingly behind the coup
Thousands of people have taken to the streets of the Niger capital in a second day of demonstrations of support for Thursday's military takeover.
Opposition politicians and coup leaders addressed a rally celebrating the overthrow of President Mamadou Tandja and the dissolution of his government.
Niger has been suspended by the African Union, and the international community has been quick to condemn the coup.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon also condemned it and called for calm.
The new ruling military council - the Supreme Council for the Restoration of Democracy - has announced the lifting of a curfew declared hours after the coup and the re-opening of borders."
This is wonderful news for the people of Niger. Everyone deserves to have freedom, and live in a true democracy. Some people do not support how they did achieve their freedom. They used the military and yes they fought for it.
Sometimes you really do have to fight for something you believe in. Democracy has never been handed down to people freely. It is something that always seems to be fought for. Look at the United States. We had to fight again the British for our Democracy.
Then we fought had our own civil war to have the United States. That was our last battle here on our grounds. Who knows United States might have to fight our government again. We can not tell what our future holds. I do know we will not have a revolution soon though.
